06/16/2003 Entry: "helping the homeless?"

I feel this is a case of good intentions gone wrong. Just because someone is homeless doesn't mean it's ok to employ them, but pay almost nothing for their work. If Pizza Schmizza wants to do actually enact real change, how about paying these kids minimum wage for their work, and if they've shown themselves to be responsible and on time (no small feat when you're dealing with all that being homeless entails), employ them at one of the 'Schmizza storefonts popping up all over town? This is similar to the model Sisters of the Road Cafe has, giving real job experience to people experiencing homelessness, and helping them get into housing.
