02/20/2002 Entry: "What?"

File Under: Are you fucking kidding?

"Civilized people -- Muslims, Christians and Jews -- all understand that the source of freedom and human dignity is the Creator."

"Civilized people of all religious faiths are called to the defense of His creation. We are a nation called to defend freedom -- a freedom that is not the grant of any government or document, but is our endowment from God." - John Ashcroft

As an American citizen, I've always kind of assumed that the freedom we are given in this country comes from the Constitution, not some deity that US citizens may or may not believe in. It's abundantly clear, as the article states, that Ashcroft has no problem choosing Church over State, and that his beliefs are deeply rooted in "Believe in god or go to hell"-type thinking.

If anyone's keeping a tally, chalk up one more vote for desperately hoping he gets impeached.

it's all moral values... reglious bias!!! the constitution is a doctrine put into effect to guide americans to being decent civilized people. because this country was stolen/founded on christian values... not many other religious values affect the constitution.

Feh to that.

Countries can be FOUNDED on religious backgrounds. But look at the documents. There's almost no mention of God or religion in the US Constitution, and the primary reference is the 1st amendment prohibition against establishment of state religion.

Granted, in practice, politicians hardly divorce their religion from their politics.

But "people have no say on what they want to believe or not"?

Bunk.

now... mind you i also dislike ashcroft... i think he's a no good bumm, but say what you will... this country and most countries are based on relious beliefs... even the constitution is based on a religion, christianity. our values and our culture as a country are all based on religion. people have no say on what they want to believe or not. all we really have is the illusion of freedom.

Ashcroft is a narrow-minded jerk. I have no idea what possessed congress to confirm him.
BTW - I'm a Republican!
Be Well...

Keeping score:

which people actually discovered and used, and

which no one discovered and almost no one used, but at least I own a cool domain.
